Blue Cheese & Biltong Salad with Pecan Nuts by Deliciously Lia

Blue Cheese & Biltong Salad with Pecan Nuts by Deliciously Lia

Blue cheese and biltong are some of South Africa’s much-loved ingredients, whether that is in a salad or if you are enjoying it on a nice piece of bread. I, therefore, decided to pair this delicious salad with one of South Africa’s much-loved wines which is the ultimate charmer, the 2020 Kliprug Bush Vine Chenin Blanc by Kaapzicht. With a golden crisp colour in the glass, this Chenin Blanc was very refreshing and was the ultimate winner when it was paired with this salad. With hints of apple and apricot on the nose, and a tropical but buttery smooth finish on the palate, this wine had a stunning peach and pear taste to it. As this wine is so refreshing, medium-bodied, and full of flavour, it eased the taste of the blue cheese, while having the remainder of the salad gorgeously stand out! Delicious good quality wine at a remarkable price!

Serves 4

60g Petit Herb Salad

60g Thinly Sliced Beef Biltong (no fat)

200g Blue Cheese

75g Pecan Nuts

30g Pumpkin Seeds

150g Mix Baby Tomatoes

½ Red Onion, Sliced in Thin Slices

  1. In a salad bowl of your choice start by adding the Petit Herb Salad at the bottom of the bowl. Once done, add the red onion, followed by the baby tomatoes. Have fun here – I sliced some of them up and others I decided to put them in as-is. Once done, sprinkle some pumpkin seeds over followed by a handful of pecan nuts that you have crushed in your hand.
  2. To finish the salad off, add the biltong before finally adding over the blue cheese which you have crumbled into small pieces with your hand.
  3. Leave in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes and serve with a delicious glass of 2020 Kaapzicht Kliprug Bush Vine Chenin Blanc.
